Afonso's Story

Afonso Saraiva Macedo e Couto is a 6 year old boy, son of Macau racing driver Andre Couto and Graca Saraiva. Last November, he has been diagnosed with Leukemia.

Afonso is now living in complete isolation and receiving chemotherapy at the Oncological Hospital in Oporto, Portugal. Due to the type and the aggressiveness of Afonso’s leukemia, only a bone marrow transplant can save his life. It is confirmed that there is no compatible match within the family.

Afonso's parents found themselves forced to move their residence from Macau to Oporto where they can be by his side. Family and friends both in Macau and Portugal have been organizing campaigns and carrying out initiatives in order to raise awareness for bone marrow donation. The response has been overwhelming, unfortunately a compatible donor is yet to be found.
